Ever Orlando-Reyes, 35, of Stillwater Avenue, was first arrested by Stamford Police on Monday for whipping a man with his belt during a bar fight, said Stamford Police Capt. Richard Conklin.

Following the fight, in front of Reye’s Bar at 99 Stillwater Ave., Orlando-Reyes tried to run from police but was captured, police said.

Following his arrest for assault, officers ran a background check and discovered that Orlando-Reyes was wanted on a warrant for the August 2017, death of a 44-year-old Norwalk woman in a car accident in Stamford, police said.

A landscaper originally from Guatemala, Orlando-Reyes was allegedly driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse GTS on I-95 when he lost control and flipped the vehicle, ejecting his passenger, Maria Abarca-Banos, police said.

State police found Orlando-Reyes, injured inside the vehicle with the smell of alcohol emanating from his breath.

Abarca-Banos was pronounced dead at Stamford Hospital.

Orlando-Reyes was treated at Yale-New Haven Hospital where an analysis of his blood and urine found that he had an alcohol content more than twice the legal limit,

He is being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond until his arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday.
